Chef of the Month - November 2019

Chefs of Chef Works is a dedication to our extensive network of local and international Chefs, who share their culinary journeys with us, by providing first-hand insight into the exciting world of hospitality.

We talk to: Ariel Giuvi Head Chef @ Dinner in the Sky

From when it all started? I always had a passion for cooking from when I was very little. I was living with my family in Gibraltar and decided to participate in the local Master Chef named Gibraltar Rock Chef where I ended as one of the runners up. Thanks to this experience, new doors opened for me and started to work at the Restaurant of one of the Rock Chef Judges named The Lounge Gibraltar.

Who was your greatest cooking inspiration? Heston Blumenthal and Tom Kerridge.

What is your favorite cooking dish? Asado, the Argentinian BBQ way.

Who would you most like to cook for? For my family and friends.

Any awards? Not personal ones but in 2018 Dinner In Tthe Sky Malta (where I work), won best overall Restaurant award from the Definitive(ly) Good Guide Awards.

What do you enjoy doing most when you’re outside the kitchen? Playing football and cooking BBQ with my family.

Weirdest food you ever ate? Sea cucumber, shark steak, and crocodile.

Your favorite cookbook? Larousse Gastronomic

What is your favorite Chef Works Item? The Hartford Chef Coat.  This jacket provides extreme durability, style, and functionality.

Your biggest achievement? Definitely being the father of three fantastic boys. Related to work, when I look back to when me and my family were relocated in Gibraltar and I found myself without a job, It was a very difficult time for us. However, thanks to my passion for cooking and my hard work, today I am the Head Chef for Dinner in the Sky. I started working with the Company from 2018. Dinner in the Sky is a fine- dining experience concept. I must say it is an unforgettable life experience dining at 40 meters above the land enjoying magnificent views, and being served exquisite food. Currently, am also studying for a degree in Culinary Aarts at@ ITS.

Your best Culinary tip? Although it sounds basic, I would say always taste your food during the cooking and before serving your customers.
